Mary Magdalene Shakti Power by Ona Martin

Origins of our Gathering

I’ve been blessed to serve our Sisters for over two decades with teaching and apprenticeships based in plants, bees, and priestess training. After 17 years (the same as the cycle of the cicadas), the Sisters began to express the desire for continuing connection beyond their specific works.

At that time, I was working with Kate and Stephanie from Spiritweavers in an advanced Shamanic training. During a journey to connect with our ancestors I met my cardinal ancestor, my guardian, the "Oldest One,” who was old beyond time itself. She was a beautiful woman with blue eyes and silver hair. She was both young and ancient, Maiden and Crone, and she wore a navy blue robe over her long white dress. I asked her name and where she was from. She answered that one of her many names was Mary, and that she went “way back.”

Then I asked how I was to honor her, and she requested a special ritual on a given day. The ritual and the day, she said, would be revealed to me later.

In 2016 during the last week of July, Sharon and I organized an overnight gathering for the Sisters at her place in the northern Michigan countryside. The ritual was about going deep into a cave and, by the beat of the big drum, connecting to our lineage and beginning to remember.

As I traveled to Sharon’s for that first gathering I was listening to NPR on my car radio. There was a story about how the Roman Catholic Church had just recognized the feast of St. Mary Magdalene, and that it would be the very same day our celebration was scheduled. Mary had shown me how she wished to be honored.

After that gathering, we agreed that it should become an annual event. Beginning in 2017, we have explored one chakra each year, and will continue through all seven before we choose our next path of study.

I see this annual gathering  as a fulfillment of  my commitment to Her, and to the Sisters that form our Community of Women - priestesses, witches, shamans, and all who wish to live in the Light of the Divine Feminine. And so we continue, deepening our connection to the Magdalene, our Sisters, and Ourselves.
